2026 World Young Scientists GBA Frontier Dialogue opens in Hong Kong

Organised by HKAAST · Two initiatives launched

The "2026 World Young Scientists Greater Bay Area Frontier Dialogue", hosted by the World Young Scientists Alliance (WAYS) and organised by the Hong Kong Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology, opened at Hong Kong Cyberport. Under the theme "Wisdom converges in the Bay Area; industry and research integrate", the dialogue responds to the national 15th Five-Year Plan's strategy for self-reliant science and AI-safety governance, gathering leading scientists, young scholars and industry leaders from home and abroad.

Two initiatives launched

Dr. Yam Tak-Kin, Senior Vice-President of HKAAST, together with Dean Ng Kwok-Po of HKBU and the GBA Research Alliance, jointly issued the GBA Future Education Innovation Cooperation Initiative, aligning K12 with research and leading citizen science.

At the same event, the "GBA AI Safety & Development Standing Committee", founded and led by HKAAST, together with the GBA Research Alliance, Huawei, Linux Foundation APAC and corporate members, jointly issued the GBA Joint Initiative on AI Safety in Education — building the line of defence while AI empowers education, and protecting children from data infiltration and harmful content.

Young scientists and AI safety

As a vital bridge between the mainland and the world, HKAAST will continue to leverage the unique strengths of "one country, two systems" to attract top scientists and young talent to Hong Kong, drive international dialogue on AI-safety standards and ethical norms, and help the nation build a globally influential international I&T centre in the Greater Bay Area.

The Committee takes this as its starting point to keep advancing public education in AI safety and open-source tools — the very platform you are reading now.
